3 Places In Jordan

Mars on Earth

If I could describe what Jordan is to a person who’s never experienced the country I would simply ask if they have seen the Martian Movie starring Matt Damon, because this country feels like Mars on Earth! Earlier this year during my first year of traveling in the middle east, I had the opportunity to cross from Egypt to Jordan by ferry. On my Youtube I’ve already made an in depth Travel Guide on Jordan covering everything you need to know to gear you up for your next trip. In this blog I will mainly focus on the 3 locations I would like you to know about before you book your next flight, so lets begin!

Hidden View of Petra

Location 1: Petra

The first place I would want you to get to know is the world famous Petra, it’s nothing like how social media portrays it and it’s not just a specific temple like you see in this photo above. Petra is a valley of wonders, if you’ve ever visited the Grand Canyon it’s something very similar. Reason why you should know if not already, is because this location is a world wonder and for good reason. Jordan Pass works great for government properties like this ,you can get it here https://www.jordanpass.jo/

I hope you like walking because to explore Petra will take you 4 hours 👀 seriously it’s not a joke. The way this location is set up; is by how much time you want to spend. I talked about the rates in my travel guide, it’s best to explore Petra in 2 days that way you’re not rushed for time to explore the whole valley, it will only cost you 5 more JD.

Rates:

50 JD for 1 day = 70.52 USD

55 JD for 2 days = 77.55 USD

Location 2: Wadi Rum

Wadi Rum(Valley of the Moon) is another location you have to experience for yourself, If you liked Petra you’re going to love this place. I always describe Wadi Rum as Jurassic Park without Dinosaurs because of the vast valley that it is. It’s a gorgeous valley that seems endless. My tour guide who is also guy in this photo 👈🏽 was born here and has lived here his whole life. This landscape really made me feel like I was on another planet, particularly Mars. Right now it is protected lands used for tourism, many tour groups pass by everyday to sleep or to just experience the sunset. To get the best experience and see most of the cool locations you will need to stay the night there and sleep at the camps set up. No need to search; if you want to a tour guide, here is the contact details of the person I explored Wadi Rum with. Tell him Derrick sent you. 😎

The Wadi Rum experience is set up like this, they don’t pick you up, you would need to take a Taxi or if you’ve rented a car that is fine as well. You meet with the tour then you pay at the entrance, if you have the Jordan pass this would be the perfect time to use it. The tour is a full day experience, the guide will drive you to various places in Wadi Rum in his truck or in the back of the truck(however you choose). In my opinion sitting in the back will give you the best views. Sunset will soon arrive, they have designed a meeting point for that. Other travelers and tourist get rounded up during sunset, the guide will take you to your accommodation to rest. They will prepare food and let me tell you there’s nothing like home cooked food. They had a nice spread from Salad, Rice to Chicken. Some Campfire music will play then time to sleep. The morning you have your last breakfast prepared, then they will bring you back to your car or taxi.

Location 3: The Dead Sea

The Dead Sea

This last location is best for visiting on your way out of the country towards the capital (Amman) The best way to get to the Dead Sea is with a Taxi or a rented car. The Dead Sea, also known by other names, is a salt lake bordered by Jordan to the east and Israel. The lake's surface is 430.5 metres below sea level, making its shores the lowest land-based elevation on Earth! If you’ve visited the western part of Egypt a place called Siwa, they have natural Salt Lake Oasis. These salt lakes will give you the same if not similar experience to the dead sea. What I am trying to say is you can’t drown in this water, and you don’t want this water to get in your eyes or in any open wounds. This water is also the hottest water I’ve ever swam in. As you get closer to the heat radiating from this water becomes a bit overwhelming. Come down here to swim, spend a few hours, take pictures and move on because that’s all you can do. If you’ve read this far, thanks! These are the 3 locations you need to have on your next trip to Jordan. If you want a more in depth travel guide I’ve made on my youtube, Enjoy!
